SURVEY REVEALS SA’S MOST POPULAR CAR COLOURS

White/white pearl is South Africa’s most popular car colour with a 40% market share, the highest recorded market share for white/white pearl of any region or country globally, according to the 2011 DuPont Automotive Colour Popularity Report.  Silver followed, with nearly 22% market share and black/black effect rounded out the top three with nearly 12%.

According to DuPont, South Africa’s premier car colour choice mirrors global trends with white/white pearl emerging as the world’s fastest growing colour.  By contrast, some countries in Europe are seeing a growing preference for black/black effect, with 25% market share, led by the luxury/luxury SUV segment with nearly 40% segment share.  In Russia, black/black effect is currently the most popular car colour, with more than 23% market share.

Silver topped the Asia Pacific region with more than 25% share and was again No 1 in China and South Korea.   Silver also led the South American market with 30% share and was the colour of choice in Brazil.

The DuPont report, in its 59th year, is the longest running and largest survey of its kind in the industry and includes automotive colour popularity rankings and trends from 11 leading automotive regions around the world.  The top global vehicle colours in DuPont’s report are: 1= white/white pearl and silver 22%, 3 black/black effect 20%, 4 grey 13%, 5 red 7%, 6 blue 6%, 7 brown/beige 5%, 8 green 2%, 9 yellow/gold 1%, 10 others 2%.

COP17

A friendly reminder that the 17th Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (Cop17) will be held in Durban from November 28 to December 9.  The primary focus of the conference will be to secure a global climate agreement.  The Renault/Nissan Alliance is proud to be part of this important conference.  Due to its contribution to making the world a greener place, the Nissan LEAF (World Car of the Year 2011) and the Renault Fluence will be on display.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

Nissan has resumed partial output in Thailand after the supply of parts recovered, following the Southeast Asian nation's worst floods in almost 70 years.  Nissan, which closed its factory in Samut Prakan on October 14, began limited production at the plant last week.

Nissan and Daimler AG are finalising plans to jointly assemble passenger vehicles in Mexico for sale mainly in the North American market.  The proposed plant will have an annual production capacity of around 200 000 vehicles and is expected to begin operating in the first half of 2014.  The total investment in the factory, which will make vehicles for both car brands, may touch an estimated $1billion.  Nissan and Renault formed an alliance with Daimler in April 2010 under which they agreed to jointly develop cars and engines.
